New Delhi, Sep 27 (India Report )
Among the first to check in the much-criticised Commonwealth Games Village, Indian weightlifting contingent today gave thumbs up to the facilities there, saying that they are satisfied with the security and cleanliness in the sprawling campus.
"We are staying at tower number 29. We are satisfied with the facilities and the security. Don&apost know about other team&aposs complaint,"coach Harnam Singh said.
Gold medal prospect in men&aposs 69kg, K Ravi Kumar said the negative reports about the unhygienic conditions at the Games Village were much exaggerated.
"Whatever we have heard during our training in Patiala they are not even 10 per cent true. The cleaning process is continuing and we hope it will be perfect very soon. We still find some water while going for training but we have no complaint about the facilities,"said Ravi Kumar who is ranked number one in Commonwealth rankings in men&aposs 69kg.
Ravi Kumar said lifters from Canada, Cyprus and Malaysia would be tough competitors in the lightweight category.
Harnam said the weightlifting doping controversy has been forgotten and he is hoping that India will get 10-12 medals, including four gold.
"The doping controversy before the CWG are behind us now and the team is well prepared and the federation have assured us full cooperation,"he said.
"We are a 15-member team, eight boys and seven girls and we are expecting at least 10-12 medals. We expect gold medals from Ravi Kumar in men&aposs 69kg section, Sonia Chanu (women&aposs 48Kg), Renu Bala (women&aposs 58kg) and Monika Devi (women&aposs 75kg)"he added.
The Indian weightlifters were saved from missing the Games with the Organising Committee doling out Rs 1.77 crore for the national body to pay two installments of a hefty USD 5 lakh dope fine to the international federation before August 31 deadline.
Six Indian weightlifters had tested positive for banned drugs last year, which attracted the hefty fine.
