MP minister says Commonwealth Games does not amount to slavery

Bhopal (19 September ,2010),(IndiaReport).

Countering the statement of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan that Commonwealth Games were like&apossymbol of slavery', state&aposs Urban Administration Minister Babulal Gaur said here today that all Commonwealth members are separate nations.
"The Commonwealth is a forum of 70 countries which were once ruled by the British and apart from the games, it organises various other activities,"Gaur told media,
Gaur who was among the dignitaries present on Friday to welcome the Queen&aposs Baton said"There is no question of slavery now as we are a separate nation and it holds true with regard to other members of the Commonwealth as well,".
The Minister said that the concept of Commonwealth Games was approved by the country&aposs first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru with all the successive governments following it.
The Chief Minister Chouhan had skipped the programme to receive the Queen&aposs Baton as he said that in his view holding the Commonwealth Games was rather improper and a mark of slavery.
